    Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve (one of the primary nerves to the hand), resulting in numbness, tingling, and pain in the hand and forearm. This condition occurs when the median nerve is forced to compress and squeeze as it travels through the wrist.

Symptoms in the thumb through the ring fingers of the affected hand:

    • Pain
    • Tingling
    • Numbness
    • Weakness

    Treatment Options

Open carpal tunnel release surgery is best for those with a natural narrowing of the carpal tunnel or if the surgeon needs to remove a tumour or cyst simultaneously.

    Non-Surgical Treatments

If surgical treatment is not suitable, the surgeon may suggest other non-surgical treatment options for carpal tunnel syndrome:

    • Steroid injections
    • Wrist icing
    • Wrist splints
    • Movement modification
    • Weight management
