Common visit questions
Where is Acorn Private Clinic located in Cardiff?
Our flagship clinic is at 13 Washington Buildings, Stanwell Road, Penarth (CF64 2AD) — about 10 minutes from Cardiff city centre. We also have a satellite clinic at Beauty Within, 10 High Street, Cowbridge (CF71 7AG), and our private MRI scanner is located at Asda Pentwyn, Cardiff (CF23 8NL).
What are your opening hours?
Monday to Thursday: 9am-6pm. Friday: 9am-5pm. Saturday: 9am-3pm. Sundays closed. The same hours apply at both Penarth and Cowbridge. Online booking is available 24/7 even when the clinics are closed.
How do I book an appointment?
Most services are self-refer — you can book online in 60 seconds for ultrasound, REMS bone scans, GP consultations, blood tests and injections. For MRI you need a referral from a healthcare professional — use our online referral form. You can also call us on 029 2199 9300 or email contact@acornprivateclinic.co.uk.
Is there parking at the Penarth clinic?
Yes — free street parking is available on Washington Buildings and Stanwell Road right outside the clinic. There's usually space within a 2-minute walk. No parking restrictions apply outside our opening hours.
Which clinic should I go to?
Most patients visit our flagship clinic in Penarth, which offers all our services. The Cowbridge clinic is convenient for patients in the Vale of Glamorgan or Bridgend area and offers ultrasound, REMS, GP and blood tests. MRI patients go to Asda Pentwyn in Cardiff. Choose whichever is closest or has the appointment time that suits you best.
Can I get to your Penarth clinic by public transport?
Yes — Penarth railway station is a 5-minute walk from our clinic on Stanwell Road. Frequent trains run from Cardiff Central. Buses also stop on Stanwell Road. For Cowbridge, the 303/X3 buses from Cardiff stop on the High Street, very near our clinic.
Do you have step-free access?
Yes — our Penarth clinic has ground-floor consulting rooms with step-free access. If you use a wheelchair, walking aid or have specific accessibility needs, please let us know at the time of booking so we can plan the appointment appropriately.
Is the clinic regulated?
Yes — Acorn Private Clinic is regulated and inspected by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) — the same body that regulates NHS services in Wales. All our consultants are UK-registered with the GMC, and our nurses with the NMC. We hold full medical indemnity insurance.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Absolutely. You're welcome to bring a partner, family member, friend or carer to any appointment. They can come into the consultation with you, or wait in our comfortable reception area. For sensitive procedures (e.g. internal ultrasound), let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange?
You can cancel or reschedule online via your booking confirmation email, or call us on 029 2199 9300. Cancellations more than 48 hours before appointment are refunded in full. We're flexible for genuine emergencies and illness — just let us know as early as possible.
How do I contact you outside opening hours?
The online booking system is available 24/7, so you can secure your appointment at any time. For urgent enquiries when we're closed, please email contact@acornprivateclinic.co.uk and we'll respond first thing the next working day. If you have a medical emergency, please call 999 or visit your nearest A&E.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
Photo ID for first-time visits, and any previous scans, reports, referral letters or relevant medical records. For ultrasound and MRI, a list of your current medications is helpful. For some scans, specific preparation is needed (e.g. fasting for abdominal ultrasound, full bladder for pelvic) — we'll confirm details when you book.
