Why book the Ultimate

One test, a whole-body picture

The Ultimate is the most thorough screen we offer. It checks your heart, liver, kidneys, thyroid, hormones, iron, blood count, diabetes risk, inflammation, nutrition and more, so you see how the major systems are working together rather than one number at a time.

A report you can actually read

Your results are broken down in plain language: what each marker means and what to do next. Anything outside the normal range is flagged.

Yours to keep and share

Your report is emailed to you, so it is easy to keep on file or share with another clinician.

A doctor on hand

Want to talk it through? Our Well Person + GP Review package adds a follow-up where one of our doctors goes through your results with you.

What is measured

150 markers across 21 areas

The same core panels are checked for everyone. The sex-specific hormone panel changes depending on who the test is for. Use the switch to see yours.

Difficult veins? We find them with ultrasound

If you have fragile or hard-to-find veins and have had failed attempts before, our consultant radiologists can take the sample under real-time ultrasound. It is the only such service in South Wales, and patients travel to us from across Wales and the West for it.

Radiologist-led, using real-time ultrasound to locate a suitable vein.
One sitting, so no repeat trips for a failed draw.
Mention it when you book and we will allow time for it.

Nobody had managed to take my blood in years without several attempts. Here it was done first time with the ultrasound. Such a relief.

FAQ

Common questions about the Ultimate blood test

How much is the Well Man / Well Woman Ultimate blood test?

£350 all inclusive. That covers the blood draw, all 150 markers, and a plain-English report emailed to you. A £50 deposit secures your appointment and comes off the total.

Is it the same test for men and women?

The core panels are identical. The sex-specific hormone panel differs: men get a prostate (PSA) marker, women get a full female hormone panel including oestradiol, FSH, LH and progesterone. Use the switch above to see each version.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. This is a self-refer test. Book online or call 029 2199 9300.

Do I need to fast before the test?

For the most accurate glucose, cholesterol and metabolic results we usually recommend fasting for around 10 to 12 hours, with water allowed. We will confirm exactly what to do when you book.

How quickly will I get my results?

It depends on which markers are in your test. As a rough guide, results take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Ask us when you book and we will give you a clearer idea for your test. Your report lists reference ranges with any out-of-range values flagged.

Where is the blood taken?

At our Penarth clinic (13 Washington Buildings, CF64 2AD) or our Cowbridge clinic (10 High Street, CF71 7AG). Both are a short drive from Cardiff with easy parking.

I have difficult veins. Can you still take blood?

Yes. Our consultant radiologists can take the sample under real-time ultrasound, the only such service in South Wales. Mention it when you book so we can allow time.

Can a doctor talk me through my results?

Yes. Our Well Person + GP Review package (£390) includes a follow-up appointment where one of our doctors goes through your results and next steps.

Can I buy it as part of a package?

Yes. Well Person + GP Review is £390 and adds a GP appointment to review your results, saving £65. Gold Health Screen is £655 and adds a REMS bone scan, an ECG and a GP review, saving £125 against booking each separately.

Can I claim on health insurance?

We are recognised by major UK insurers including Bupa, AXA, Vitality, WPA and Benenden. Check your policy and any pre-authorisation rules with your insurer first.

Your results, explained by a doctor

Important: Blood test results are most useful when reviewed by a doctor who knows your history. We recommend discussing your results with your own GP, or choosing our Well Person + GP Review package so a doctor talks you through them, before acting on any findings. Lab values alone do not constitute medical advice.
