Why book this test

Train on data, not guesswork

Hard training only pays off when your body can recover from it. The Athlete Pro looks across the systems that drive performance and limit it, from hormones and iron to muscle enzymes and stress markers, so you can fine-tune nutrition, protect against injury and catch overtraining before it costs you a season.

Built for performance

Tracks the hormones, muscle and joint markers and nutrition levels that most affect how you train, recover and adapt.

A report you can act on

Your results come with reference ranges and plain-English notes, with anything out of range flagged so it is easy to spot.

A doctor if you want one

Prefer to talk it through? Book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will go through your results and next steps.

Nobody had managed to take my blood in years without several attempts. Here it was done first time with the ultrasound. Such a relief.

FAQ

Common questions about the Athlete Pro

How much is the Athlete Pro blood test?

£242 all inclusive. That covers the blood draw, all the panels listed above, and a plain-English report emailed to you. A £50 deposit secures your appointment and comes off the total.

What does it measure?

Over 80 data points across 16 areas, including hormones and stress markers, muscle and joint markers, iron status, nutrition, a full blood count, heart and lipids, liver, kidney, thyroid, bone, diabetes and inflammation, plus body measurements. You can see the full list in the panel above.

Is it only for competitive athletes?

No. It suits anyone who trains regularly and wants to understand their body better, from weekend runners and gym-goers to competitive athletes. If you push your body, the data helps you train and recover smarter.

Does it cover hormones for both men and women?

Yes. The profile includes male and female hormone markers, and your report focuses on the ones relevant to you. Let us know at booking if there is anything specific you want reviewed.

Do I need to fast, and when should I take it?

For the most accurate glucose and lipid results we usually recommend fasting for around 10 to 12 hours, with water allowed. Hormones such as testosterone and cortisol vary through the day, so a morning appointment is ideal. We will confirm the details when you book.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. This is a self-refer test. Book online or call 029 2199 9300.

How quickly will I get my results?

It depends on which markers are in your test. As a rough guide, results take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Ask us when you book and we will give you a clearer idea. Your report lists reference ranges with any out-of-range values flagged.

Where is the blood taken?

At our Penarth clinic (13 Washington Buildings, CF64 2AD) or our Cowbridge clinic (10 High Street, CF71 7AG). Both are a short drive from Cardiff with easy parking.

I have difficult veins. Can you still take blood?

Yes. Our consultant radiologists can take the sample under real-time ultrasound, the only such service in South Wales. Mention it when you book so we can allow time.

Can a doctor talk me through my results?

Yes. You can book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will go through your results and next steps.

Want a doctor to explain the results?

Performance markers are most useful alongside your training and goals. Book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will talk you through what your results mean and any next steps.
