Private Menopause & HRT Clinic, close to home.
Feeling not quite yourself? Talk it through with a private GP who has time to listen. We assess your symptoms, arrange hormone bloods if needed, and prescribe HRT where it's right for you — with same-week appointments across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Menopause care that listens
Perimenopause and menopause can begin years before periods stop, and the symptoms — from hot flushes and broken sleep to brain fog, low mood and joint aches — are easy to dismiss or misattribute. Too often women are left to manage alone, or wait months for a ten-minute appointment.
At Acorn, our GP Dr Rekha Shroff gives you a full 30 minutes to talk through what you're experiencing. We take a proper history, arrange hormone blood tests where they'll help, and explain your options clearly — whether that's hormone replacement therapy (HRT), lifestyle support, or simply reassurance. If HRT is right for you, we can issue a private prescription the same day.
Based in Penarth, just outside Cardiff, we see women from across South Wales — with same-week appointments and a female GP.

Menopause affects every woman differently. If some of these feel familiar, a consultation can help you understand what's going on.
From booking to feeling better
Self-refer & book
Book online or by phone — no GP referral needed. Most women are seen the same week, by a female GP.
30-minute consultation
Time to talk properly. Your GP takes a full history, reviews your symptoms and discusses what's likely going on.
Bloods & your plan
Hormone or thyroid bloods arranged in-house if they'll help. Together you agree a plan — including HRT where appropriate.
Prescription & review
A private prescription is issued the same day where suitable, with follow-up reviews to fine-tune your dose.
Simple, all-inclusive fees
No hidden costs. Your consultation includes a private prescription where clinically appropriate; medication is paid separately at the pharmacy.
Prices confirmed at booking. HRT medication is dispensed at any pharmacy and paid separately.
The right option, for you
HRT replaces the hormones your body makes less of during menopause. It comes in several forms — your GP will help you choose what suits your symptoms, health history and lifestyle.
Patches & gels
Oestrogen absorbed through the skin — a popular, lower-risk route that avoids the digestive system.
Tablets
A simple daily oral option, combined or oestrogen-only depending on whether you still have your womb.
Body-identical HRT
Regulated hormones structurally identical to your own, including micronised progesterone, prescribed where suitable.
Vaginal & local
Low-dose local oestrogen for dryness and urinary symptoms — often used alongside, or instead of, systemic HRT.
Expert, discreet, close to home
Time to talk
A full 30-minute appointment — no rushing, no ten-minute slots.
Female GP
Your women's health appointment is with a female GP — no need to ask.
Same-week access
No long waits. Most consultations available within days, not months.
HIW regulated
Healthcare Inspectorate Wales registered, with care held to high clinical standards.
Menopause & HRT questions
Do I need a GP referral?
No. Acorn operates on a self-referral basis — book a menopause consultation directly online or by phone, no GP letter needed.
Will I see a female GP?
Yes. Our women's health consultations are carried out by a female GP, so you'll be seen by a woman — there's no need to request it.
How quickly can I be seen?
Most menopause consultations are available within the same week, often within 48 hours. Booking online is the fastest way to secure a slot.
What happens at the first appointment?
You'll have a full 30 minutes with a private GP. They'll take a detailed history, review your symptoms, arrange hormone or thyroid bloods if helpful, and discuss your options — including HRT. A private prescription can be issued the same day where appropriate.
Can you prescribe HRT, including body-identical HRT?
Yes. Our GPs prescribe HRT where clinically appropriate, including patches, gels, tablets, combined preparations and body-identical options such as micronised progesterone. The prescription is private and can be taken to any pharmacy; the medication cost is separate from the consultation fee.
Do I need a blood test to diagnose menopause?
Not usually. For women over 45, menopause is generally diagnosed from symptoms alone. Blood tests can be useful if you're under 45, if the picture is unclear, or to check thyroid and other causes of fatigue. Our female hormone panel is available for £120 if needed.
Is HRT safe?
For most women, the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks, but it's an individual decision. Your GP will talk through the benefits and any risks specific to your health history so you can make an informed choice. HRT isn't suitable for everyone, and we'll always be honest if it isn't right for you.
I'm perimenopausal but still having periods — can you help?
Absolutely. Perimenopause often begins while periods are still happening, sometimes years before they stop. You don't need to wait until your periods end to seek help or start treatment.
Should I have my bone health checked?
Falling oestrogen after menopause accelerates bone loss. If you're concerned about osteoporosis, our radiation-free REMS bone density scan (£230) is a quick, easy way to assess fracture risk.
