The wide net, cast wider still
This is the extended version of our Acute Med 1 panel. It keeps the same broad look at your blood count, liver, kidneys, heart, bones and blood sugar, then adds full iron studies, muscle and joint markers, an inflammation marker and a urine test. If you want the most thorough single sweep of clinical chemistry when something feels off, this is it.
Wider than Acute Med 1
Everything in the core panel, plus iron studies, creatine kinase and uric acid, an inflammation marker and a full urinalysis.
A report you can read
Your results come with reference ranges and plain-English notes, with anything out of range flagged so it is easy to spot.
A doctor to make sense of it
With this many panels, a doctor's eye helps. Book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will talk you through what matters.
Worth booking if this sounds like you
The extended panel suits situations where you want the widest single look at what might be going on.
This is a broad screening panel, not an emergency test or a substitute for urgent care. If you are severely unwell, or your symptoms are sudden or worsening, please see a doctor or seek urgent care rather than waiting for results.

Your report lists every marker with its reference range, grouped by panel. Creatine kinase can rise after hard exercise, so it is best read with that in mind.
Difficult veins? We find them with ultrasound
If you have fragile or hard-to-find veins and have had failed attempts before, our consultant radiologists can take your sample under real-time ultrasound. It is the only such service in South Wales, and patients travel to us from across Wales and the West for it.
Nobody had managed to take my blood in years without several attempts. Here it was done first time with the ultrasound. Such a relief.

Common questions about Acute Med 2
How much is Acute Med 2?
£123 all inclusive. That covers the blood draw and urine sample, all ten panels, and a plain-English report with reference ranges emailed to you, usually the next day. A £50 deposit secures your appointment and comes off the total.
What does the panel cover?
Ten areas in one appointment: a full blood count, liver health, kidney health, heart and cholesterol, bone chemistry, diabetes markers, muscle and joint markers (creatine kinase and uric acid), full iron studies, an inflammation marker (CRP) and a full urinalysis. That is 45 blood markers alongside a nine-part urine test. You can see the full list, panel by panel, in the section above.
How is this different from Acute Med 1?
Acute Med 2 includes everything in Acute Med 1 and adds four areas: full iron studies (ferritin, iron, transferrin and more), muscle and joint markers (creatine kinase and uric acid), an inflammation marker (CRP), and a full urinalysis. Choose Acute Med 1 for the core chemistry panel, or this one for the widest single sweep at this level.
How does it compare with the Standard Health Screen?
They overlap heavily. Our Standard Health Screen is a broad general-health check built around wellness, including vitamin D and a high-sensitivity inflammation marker. Acute Med 2 is a wider clinical-chemistry sweep that adds muscle, joint and iron markers and a standard CRP. If in doubt, a quick call to the clinic can help you choose the right one.
Should I avoid exercise before the test?
Yes, ideally. This panel includes creatine kinase, a muscle enzyme that rises with hard exercise, so a heavy workout the day before can push it up and make it look abnormal when it is not. Avoiding vigorous exercise for a day or two beforehand gives a cleaner result. A light overnight fast also helps the glucose and cholesterol markers.
Does it include a urine test?
Yes. Alongside the blood profile, the panel includes a urinalysis that checks your urine for signs of infection, blood, protein, glucose and more. You provide a quick urine sample at the same appointment as your blood draw.
How quickly will I get my results?
Usually the next day. Your report groups every marker by panel, each with its reference range, and flags anything outside the normal range. We will confirm timing when you book.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. This is a self-refer test. Book online or call 029 2199 9300.
Where is it done?
At our Penarth clinic (13 Washington Buildings, CF64 2AD) or our Cowbridge clinic (10 High Street, CF71 7AG). Both are a short drive from Cardiff with easy parking.
I have difficult veins. Can you still take blood?
Yes. Our consultant radiologists can take the sample under real-time ultrasound, the only such service in South Wales. Mention it when you book so we can allow time.
Can a doctor talk me through my results?
Yes, and with ten panels it is often worth it. You can book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will go through your results and next steps.
Want a doctor to go through it with you?
Ten panels is a lot to interpret on your own. Book a private GP appointment and one of our doctors will explain what your numbers mean, how the panels fit together, and what, if anything, is worth acting on.

Important: This panel measures the markers listed and is a broad screening test, not a diagnosis and not a substitute for urgent or emergency medical care. eGFR is an estimate of kidney function interpreted alongside creatinine, and a single set of results is a snapshot rather than the full picture. Values can be affected by hydration, diet, medication, recent exercise and recent illness; creatine kinase in particular rises after hard exercise, and, for the urinalysis in women, menstruation can affect the result. An abnormal result is usually a prompt for follow-up, such as a repeat test or a review with a doctor, rather than a diagnosis in itself. If you are severely unwell or your symptoms are sudden or worsening, seek medical care promptly. Results are most useful when reviewed by a doctor who knows your history, so we recommend discussing them with your own GP or booking a private GP appointment with us before acting on any finding. Lab values alone do not constitute medical advice.
