What we can identify

Thigh ultrasound is excellent for muscle injuries and identifying lumps. Most thigh problems are soft-tissue, making ultrasound a great first test.

Hamstring tear

Grade 1-3 tears with size and location.

Quadriceps strain

Particularly rectus femoris injury.

Adductor strain

Groin pull — common in football.

Muscle haematoma

Acute or chronic bleeds.

Lipoma

Common benign fatty lumps.

Suspicious lumps

Sarcomas have distinct features — urgent referral if seen.

Significant muscle tears may benefit from physio referral. We can advise on rehab pathway.

★★★★★

Had been waiting ages on the NHS to get a scan… so when I saw this service available on the high street I was surprised. Scan was organised for the same week, totally worth it. Actually got a diagnosis for once. Dr Junaid was very thorough and explained everything.

FAQ

Common questions about thigh ultrasound scan

How much does a private thigh ultrasound cost?

£260 for one thigh, £360 for both.

Can ultrasound grade a hamstring tear?

Yes — we grade from 1 (mild strain) to 3 (complete tear) and measure the tear size. This guides recovery time and rehab.

How long does the scan take?

About 30 minutes per thigh.

Do I need a referral?

No — self-refer.

Ultrasound vs MRI for the thigh?

Ultrasound is excellent for muscle injuries and easy to repeat. MRI is best for deep, chronic, or surgical-planning cases. Many patients start with ultrasound.

How long until I can return to sport?

Depends on the grade and location of the tear. Your consultant will explain recovery expectations and rehab pathway.

Is the scan painful?

No — gentle probe pressure. We avoid the most tender area.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most appointments within 48-72 hours.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes — no radiation.

Will I get a written report?

Yes — immediate verbal results plus written report in 24-48 hours.

Can ultrasound find sarcomas?

Many soft-tissue sarcomas have distinct ultrasound features. If we see suspicious features, urgent specialist referral is arranged.

Where do I go?
