What we can identify

Ultrasound is the gold-standard test for tennis and golfer's elbow.

Tennis elbow

Thickened common extensor tendon, tears, calcifications.

Golfer's elbow

Thickened common flexor tendon at the medial epicondyle.

Cubital tunnel syndrome

Enlarged or unstable ulnar nerve.

Distal biceps rupture

Partial or complete — surgical decision-making.

Olecranon bursitis

Swelling at the point of the elbow.

Joint effusion

Inflammation or arthritis signs.

If tennis or golfer's elbow is confirmed, we can offer ultrasound-guided injection or PRP treatment in the same visit.

Before your scan

Preparation

No preparation needed

How to prepare

Wear short sleeves or something that rolls up to the shoulder.
Eat and drink normally no fasting required.
Take usual medications no need to stop anything.
Bring previous imaging if you have any.

No special prep. We need full access to the elbow region and upper forearm.

If the elbow is too painful to bend, that's fine — we work in a comfortable position.

★★★★★

Had been waiting ages on the NHS to get a scan… so when I saw this service available on the high street I was surprised. Scan was organised for the same week, totally worth it. Actually got a diagnosis for once. Dr Junaid was very thorough and explained everything.

FAQ

Common questions about elbow & forearm ultrasound

How much does a private elbow ultrasound cost?

£260 for one side, £360 for both.

Can ultrasound diagnose tennis elbow?

Yes — ultrasound is the gold-standard test for tennis elbow. We see thickening of the common extensor tendon, tears, and calcifications.

Ultrasound vs MRI for elbow — which?

Ultrasound is excellent for tendon problems and is the equal of MRI for tennis/golfer's elbow. MRI is better for internal joint and bone problems.

Can I get treatment at the same visit?

Yes — we offer ultrasound-guided cortisone injection, PRP, or barbotage for many elbow problems.

How long does the scan take?

About 30 minutes per side.

Do I need a referral?

No — self-refer.

Is the scan painful?

No — just a probe with gel.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most appointments within 48-72 hours.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes — no radiation.

Will I get a written report?

Yes — immediate verbal results plus written report in 24-48 hours.

My elbow has been painful for years — is it too late?

Not at all — chronic tendon problems often respond to PRP injection or barbotage. Ultrasound assesses the tendon state.

Where do I go?
